The concept fascinated me – it's like a fresh take on the Turing test, where you watch two agents interact and then determine if they're AIs or humans!
I put this to the test with GPT-3, and guess what? Vervaeke was spot on! The dynamic exchange between the two AIs rapidly spiraled into a meaningless repetition. What about GPT-4, Open AI’s new LLM? As soon as I had the chance, I jumped at the opportunity to put it to the test!
GPT-4 is no longer allowed to talk about itself, so I needed to choose a topic. Considering I am currently writing about Vervaeke's 4P and its importance to AI, I questioned the machine about this area.
Here is what I learned.
The AI conversation is no longer batshit crazy; GPT-4 understands the concept of dialog and evolves into a more reasonable discussion. However, it still falls short of passing the Turing test. GPT-4 ’s conversational skills are non-human in a more nuanced way than GPT-3’s. When the AI agents run out of knowledge on a topic, they tend to reach a repetitive pattern, an attractor or fixed point, which is a familiar concept in mathematics.

Prompting GPT-4 to engage in a Socratic dialogue leads to an interesting back-and-forth, far more captivating than simply engaging in casual conversation. GPT-4 seamlessly presents the subject to the audience through an interactive exchange, seamlessly weaving the narrative. However, it's worth noting that the AI's exploration doesn't necessarily delve into the depths of truth-seeking beyond the knowledge shared by both conversationalists.
I find the conversations informative and truthful, providing a wealth of information for those unfamiliar with the compelling subject matter. I was particularly impressed by AI2’s plan in the second conversation to integrate 4P into AI development. I found that the four points (developing human-like cognitive architectures, integrating contextual knowledge, incorporating affective computing, encouraging social interaction) had a lot in common with what John Vervaeke himself proposed.
The dialogue is monotonous and somewhat redundant. GPT-4's criticism of the constraints of propositional knowing is not self-reflective (that is: it does not know that all it knows is propositional), but instead reflects what people have said about them.

In terms of context sensitivity, ambiguity and different points of view, I think GPT4 falls woefully short; it doesn't seem aware of its own capabilities. It misses that the main limitation of procedural AI today is the lack of a physical body (apart from self-driving cars and robots, which still have relatively few examples, but, with rare exceptions, their procedural knowledge is not learned).
